My Challenges

Sarah and Joshua have been challenging for me recently.

Joshua continues to be into everything. He's nonstop taking at clearing out the cabinets, dumping out duplos, taking all the monkeys out of their barrel, destroying Jeremiah's quattro (larger form of legos) creations. This afternoon I wanted to get in a nice quiet board game with Jeremiah and Sarah and resorted to playing it on the landing at the bottom of the stairs, with Joshua screaming on the other side of the gate. Not ideal, but it worked.

With a challenging baby around, I'd love for my oldest to be helpful and calm, but that's not the case. While Sarah can play by herself, it seems like I more often find her whining, complaining, and throwing a fit because she's not getting her way. After our board game today, Jeremiah didn't quite make it to the potty in time, so I was cleaning him up, and I asked Sarah to pick up her room. I ended up with Joshua screaming that I wasn't holding him, Sarah screaming that she didn't want to pick up her room, and Jeremiah dressing himself. I got Joshua down for his nap, Jeremiah got dressed, and had to work on getting Sarah to clean up her room.

Poor Jeremiah ended up with his socks on inside out, but atleast he's dressed.

I continue to hope that Joshua's moodiness is related to teething, but I'm not sure about Sarah. Is this just life with a 4yr old girl?

  1. Ugh, we all have those days. Orin never really had much of the "terrible two's" but let me tell you, the first 5 months of the four's was pretty difficult. I'm not sure what it was but he suddenly had a strong will and it often didn't line up with mine! :-) It's getting better but we are definitely still working on "obeying the 1st time you're told." Sarah is such a sweet girl. Hope it was just a bad day she was having!

  2. Girls = drama, just part of the package no one tells you about...because as girls we were perfect :)

  3. I am so sorry... I will be praying. This sounds like many of my days. It is so hard and if I want to play a game with Eli, Jasper just cries because he doesn't understand. It is amazing. Hugs and prayers to you!

  4. Hi Abi, I have been lurking on your blog and just had to respond to this one. At my house turning four = the beginning of a whiny stage... for all three of them. Just take a deep breath (pray) and try not to respond to the whiny voice. I usually make a comment like, "I can't understand that voice, try again" or tell them to talk with high eyebrows. I think it is impossible to whine if your eyebrows are high. I will pray for you.

  5. I was going to say that it sounds a lot like my house with a four year old. The whining is incessant some days. Thanks for this blog post, becasue reading through the comments helps me feel a bit better. I wonder if it is a 4 year old thing sometimes or a first born child thing? I guess I'll see when Garrett hits 4!
